Anonymisation Services

The JonDo Live-DVD offers the anonymisation services JonDonym and Tor Onion Router. At startup you may choose a firewall configuration. It will restrict the usage of anonymisation services.

JonDonym

• "JonDo" is only aviable, if "Simple Firewall" was choosen on startup.. It provides a proxy that encrypts your Internet communication and conceals your IP address. Some applications included in the JoToSL-DVD are pre-configured to use JonDo as a proxy.

  

  The live-dvd is not able to save data to use it after a reboot even if you have it on a bootable USB flash device. If you want to create or use an account for the premium services you have to save it on a USB flash drive or import it from such a device after start-up. In order to do so open the Account management panel in JonDo. There you will find the options "Backup" and "Import" of premium accounts.

• In case of firewall configuration "Restricted Firewall (JonDo only)" you have to set a passphrase for the JonDoDaemon control port. JonDoDaemon will start automatically in background, if a network connection was established, and will connect to a free mix cascade.

  You may manage the JonDoDaemon with a commandline application. Open a terminal and run: > jondodaemon ctrl

Tor Onion Router

• If the firewall configuration "Simple Firewall" was choosen at startup, you have to start the Tor daemon by self before you can use it with TorBowser for anonymous surfing, with Icedove, POND, Pidgin, Filezilla, Electrum or Mixmaster and other applications.

  1. You may start the control panel "Vidalia (Tor GUI)" to manage the Tor daemon. It launches the Tor daemon and connects to the Tor network. If you could see green onion Tor is ready for use.

     

  2. Alternatively you may use the Tor without "Vidalia", if you did not like the fancy GUI. Open a terminal and run the following command to start a Tor daemon: > sudo service tor start

• In case of firewall configuration "Restricted Firewall (Tor only)" the Tor daemon will start automatically in background, if a network connection was established. It is not required to start a new instance of Tor by "Vidalia (Tor GUI)".

• If you started the instant messenger "TorChat", it will launch an own Tor daemon in background. This Tor daemon is listen at port 11109. You can use "TorChat" only with "Simple Firewall" configuration.
