There are JAP/JONDO installers availalble from Dresden and Regensburg. Unfortunately both have the same problem: the JAVA is included 2 times.

https://anonymous-proxy-servers.net/en/jondo.html

Date: 2011-07-26
Version: 00.15.018

Inside I see:

$TEMP\jre1.6.offline.exe 16619296 bytes

but also

$_OUTDIR\App\JonDo\jre

inside this directory I find another 61570449 bytes.

After extracting jre1.6.offline.exe I can see than the versions do differ (why?) but still both are the very same thing JAVA, just packed (repeatedly!) with different algorithms.

Solution to this problem (saves approx 12 MB!!!): remove the jre directory with preextracted JAVA. If the user selects "portable", don't run the included JAVA installer, instead, extract it (seems to be cab inside zip).

Because we do not update both JRE's simultaneously yet.

Could you elaborate this point a bit? I think I do not understand your idea here. How should I extract it exactly?

Instead of running the installer jre1.6.offline.exe, run some uncab tool (find a tiny one or compile some open source uncab code), you get 4 files

regutils.dll
patchjre.exe 0
zipper.exe
core.zip

then run zipper.exe applied to core.zip and you get the files.

Thanks for the explanation! I searched the web for a while but did not find any Windows built-in tool to do all the extraction for us. Therefore, I cannot implement this idea immediately. I would have to audit a third party tool and then incorporate it in our installer process. That needs some time and thorough testing. But I put it on our ToDo list in order to not forget it and fix the issue when I have a bit more time than now.

7-ZIP contains uncab code. There is probably more http://www.cabextract.org.uk/ I tested 7-ZIP only.

In version 16.06, there are still 2 JAVA, both updated to version 1.7, got bigger, the differences between them got less (files java.exe and jawaw.exe are now identical), but not zero.
