Same Problem on Debian 10.5. Its propably a problem with the JAVA version.
Debian 9/10 come with OpenJDK 11. Formaly the daemon was able to ru with SUN JAVA6 and OpenJDK6. Currently the install description mentions only OpenJDK6/7. It is known that applications made for JAVA6 have problems to run with JAVA11.
As JAVA6 has some security issues the best woud be to port the daemon to JAVA11.
I will try to install SUN JAVA6 and/or OpenJDK7 on Deb 10 and post the result here.

Re: Help ... needed jondo+ubuntu 18.04
... so I checked now several JREs Oracle 1.6, openJDK 6/8/11.
The flavor 'sun' warning remains. But ist does not have any effect. It is just a warning.
But the whole deamon/console version seems to be outdated, it only connects to the free services but not to premium services, configuration by using jondodaemon control is impossible. I will open a new issue regarding that.
