Hi

I am using thunderbird with web based email service but I'm haing problems send email's

I can receive emails but not send them

I wish for my traffic while send emails to be tor --> jondo (I have this connection working and tested)

I have used this FAQ to setup Thunderbird

http://anonymous-proxy-servers.net/en/h ... rbird.html

error msg when sending emails;

Sending of message failed.
The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server smtp.xxx.net failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct and try again, or contact the server administrator.

my SMPT port settings should be (as advised by email provider)

no encryption 25
STARTTLS 25
SSL encryption 465
Submission 587
Submission (STARTTLS) 587

an anyone shed any light ???

I have tried all of the above SMPT settings also

PLease use:

server: smtp.xxx.net (check for writing misstakes)

port: 465 and enbale SSL encryption (prefered, if supported by the provider)

Port 25 will never work with JonDonym. It is blocked on exit mixes for spam protection.

If the settings above does not work, please try an other mix cascade. May be, one or two mix cascades are blocked be the mail provider by usinganti spam blacklists. (I will check the most used 150 blacklists tomorrow for our mixes.)

If non of he mix cascades was working, blocking of JonDonym by the mail provider in generally is possible too. (But we did not see this kind of blocking in the last time.)

In addition of the answer above...
last but not least, don't forget to check this too!

Depending of the"web based email service" you prefer...
... have you got its right outgoing server-name?
... have you done it correctly?
... including the right dot.xyz? ;-)

Sometimes incoming- and outgoing server-names are the same.
But also some webmailer are using up to three different names for their POP- and IMAP-servers and for the SMTP-server too.

Maybe it helps.

Hi

Firstly thank you both for your input.

I had misspelled the server same.

If I wish to connect thunderbird to tor then jondo what should the connection settings be for thunderbird ??

so tor------>jondo------>mailserver

and vise verse

(I have already jondo connected via tor)

host = localhost
port = 9050

SOCKS5 host = localhost and SOCKS5 port = 4001 (assuming your JonDo is listening on port 4001). And the Tor settings have to be entered into JonDo but as I understand you have already done this:

In his thread-opening...

... there is something written about:
Quote:
I have this connection working and tested
... meaning:
Quote:
traffic while send emails (via) tor --> jondo

Right now...

... that seems to make his settings of this option in use for sure:
Quote:
what should the connection settings be for thunderbird ?? so tor------>jondo------>mailserver ( ... )
... because he wants to test the other direction of this connection as an alternative of the anonymized e-mail-traffic.:
Quote:
( ... ) and vise verse

So, wishing to have the right settings needed for another option.

I'm wishing for traffic to follow this route <me>------tor<----->jondo<----> mailserver

I have the tor browser bundle running and

jondo set to;

I'm forced to use a proxy --- checked

type = socks proxy
host = localhost
port = 9050

My THUNDERBIRD settings are

manual config proxy checked

HTTP
SOCKS
SLL = ALL SET TO localhost
port = 4001

with these settings will i achieve the data flow as discussed above ?

Yes.

Hint: Because of a bug in Thunderbird the proxy settings are not uses by the account creation wizard. Please start with "work offline", create your account and go online after account creation was finished.

See: https://anonymous-proxy-servers.net/en/ ... rbird.html

(We are working on a bugfix for Thunderbird.)

A Postscriptum

@ Anonuser112
(and others)

Did you notice?
That thread in your English Forum "Tor + JonDo" .
For the theme you started, it should be useful too.

Besides this, still one last clue:
I see you are linking via http-protocol. Why doing so?
Isn't it much secure, always using the "s"ecure http = https-protocol, if possible!
Even surfing the anonymous-proxy-servers.

Try https manually and bookmark it.
In other cases, one can use the Enforce HTTPS-feature in NoScript.
Or use this, an HTTPS-Everywhere named Add-On of the ElectronicFrontierFoundation EFF!
Its https-listing is really a great help, going forward with huge steps from version to version.

But, hands off! Because of some risks:
Using any kind of automated extensions searching for https, this is not recommended.
For details, see the German Forum, "Forwarding-Server/HTTPS Finder"/Technische Hilfe... and "JonDoFox & HTTPS Finder"/Entwicklung... .

And... that's it.

(If all known, please forget the posting.)
