In the IP changer, in the Edit filter section, under the Anonymity section, there is in the miscellaneous section, the phrase "no data retention."

I'm a bit confused by this. Is it required to check this section to have "no data retention"? What happens if someone does not check this--will data be retained? And if so, by whom?

during that time as this was law some of the german free mixes(like Dresden)followed that law-others not.Coz there was a hole in that law that only "payment services\ISPs"had to store traffic logs.Dresden is\was never a payment service-but as a university the get there money from the goverment....so they could not stand the pressure.

At the moment no mix server apply a data retention.

But we can see a discussion in GB and USA about a 1 year data retention. At the moment it is not clear, if JonDonym mix servers affected by this data retention. We monitoring the discussion.

May be, a mix operator has to enable data retention for his mixes in future. In this case this information will be send to you JonDo Proxy client. You can disable the use of mixes with data retention in generally with the configuration flag.

But at the moment it makes no difference, because all mixes are running without data retention.
