I can connect to the news server without problems using JonDo.

If you do not have any problems connecting JonDonym (surfen works fine for you) and JonDonym does not have problems connecting the news server, than it seems you have a configuration problem with your news reader.

I have no WINDOWS system at the moment and I can not give you a full configuration for proxy settings of your news reader.

But please check the SOCKS proxy settings. Did you set the SOCKS proxy to "localhost:4001" and did you use SOCKS v5?

Can you set a SOCKS proxy in your news reader? I did not found a proxy configuration tutorial on the web page of Agent.

By the way: Agent 3.0 is out of date since 4 years.

Err ... where did I say using Agent 3.0? Using 6.0

As I stated, this problem only in Thailand; I have no such issues anywhere in the world.

Therefore no configuration issues; etc. etc. etc.

Thanks anyway, but can someone help me with this issue please?

BTW Agent has no proxy setting at all. It uses whatever connection is available.

That is why I am using JonDo in Thailand; to overcome port blocking - but not working.

This means, you set JonDo as Proxy at"Settings\Control Panel\Internet Properties\Connections\LAN Settings"?

You already looked at this https://anonymous-proxy-servers.net/en/ ... erver.html and tried it?

Thanks for the reply.

The first setting "Control Panel" not in Win7 Pro (or at least not in my system), and I have never had to do this at home to get access to the blocked ports.

As for accessing the router; not possible where I am; asks for login & password, and I think that the people would have a hissy fit if they found that I was trying this.

May i am wrong, but you have to setup every program to use a proxy (or setup the system wide proxy settings). In any other case a program will not check for local ports, if there is a proxy running.

Could you please try to setup an other newsreader program like Thunderbird¹ to access usenet?

Thanks, already using Thunderbird for mail - works fine.

Does not connect on port 563 nor 119 for NNTP account

Agent does not require proxy setup - uses whatever connection is available.

It tooks a little bit time to get informations about Thailand internet censorchip, but now I can see the reasons for your problem.

In Thailand many internet providers intercept HTTPS connections and break the encryption with untrusted SSL certificates.

This is a problem for JonDonym connection - no security problem but a connection problem. All JonDonym servers are listen at ports 80 and 443 and entry mixes at port 6544 too. But in most cases port 443 is prefered. If the connection ist intercepted with an non-valid SSL certificate by an provider the data are not valid and the connection is closed. A new connection will be established. This will be done until a non-intercepted connection on port 80 or 6544 is well established. You see only some problems.

Best way to avoid this unstable behaviour would be disable port 443 for connections in JonDo. But unfortunatly we don't have an option to set ports. The auto-detection of firewalled port works well. Because port 443 is not firewalled, it is used time by time - we have to do some work.

I will keep you up-to-date.

From notes on 15.004:-

"Moreover, a stability protection against connection manipulations has been developed: In some countries, especially those in the middle east, HTTPS/SSL connections get manipulated by the resprective providers. Using a man-in-the-middle-attack, they aim to annihilate the encryption of web connections. Apparently, this is especially done on standard web ports like 80 and 443, while other ports remain untouched. Such manipulations may not uncover JonDonym connections, but block them, however. JonDo may now recognize such manipulations and then automatically connects to JonDonym service using alternative, non-manipulated ports."

Does that specifically solve my problem? If so, thanks!

Also didn't see any notes on 15.008 release?
