Using laptop with JD premium services last week in Thailand - issues connecting to USENET using port 119 on some services - others worked ok, but took a while to connect.

Any reason, or anything I was missing?

Can you give us some more information: wich reader program do you use and which news server. If you do not want to post it here, please use our contact form: https://anonymous-proxy-servers.net/bin ... pl?lang=en

I can not see your problems using JonDo together with Thunderbird. I can fetch news groups without problems.

We recommended the use SSL secured connections, it supported by the news server, port: 463 SSL enabled.

Thanks, Using Agent 6.0. news.individual.net (Free University of Berlin) as server.

Trying now their SSL connection; they require port 563. http://individual.net/config.php. I am outside Thailand now; seems to work ok; I did try this connection in Thailand and it also failed.

In Thailand for some reason best known to the Thai Government, port 119 seems to be permanently blocked; they also have a pretty heavy internet firewall policy.

It tooks a little bit time to get informations about Thailand internet censorchip, but now I can see the reasons for your problem.

In Thailand many internet providers intercept HTTPS connections and break the encryption with untrusted SSL certificates.

This is a problem for JonDonym connection - no security problem but a connection problem. All JonDonym servers are listen at ports 80 and 443 and entry mixes at port 6544 too. But in most cases port 443 is prefered. If the connection ist intercepted with an non-valid SSL certificate by an provider the data are not valid and the connection is closed. A new connection will be established. This will be done until a non-intercepted connection on port 80 or 6544 is well established. You see only some problems.

Best way to avoid this unstable behaviour would be disable port 443 for connections in JonDo. But unfortunatly we don't have an option to set ports. The auto-detection of firewalled port works well. Because port 443 is not firewalled, it is used time by time - we have to do some work.

I will keep you up-to-date.

A remark on this: if the connection to a JonDonym permium cascade is established, all ports are accessible. If you still have problems connecting to a news server port, you are either not connected to a premium service, or you have misconfigured your news client. In the latter case, your news requests are not anonymized. Please check whether the traffic really goes over JonDo if you update the news.

Definitely using a Premium service.

I found that if I changed services, a connection could be established after a while.

The problem may have perhaps been a function of the snail's pace alleged ASDL line?

Well, back again in Thailand.

(someone has to do it LOL!)

Port 119 for USENET not connecting at all.

I know from reading that the isp I am on blocks 119, and I cannot change the isp; in the country area and only one provider here.

Unfortunately some servers (Mozilla newsgroups) do not have SSL connections.

news.individual.net works fine on port 563.

Win 7 Pro, JD Premium cascades.

Any fix for this?

OK, an update.

119 now connects intermittently and hangs on and off; whereas the SSL connections are fine.

Any clues?

Latest today - Tuesday 02 Jan 2011 from Thailand - land of the great IP censorship department.

Neither port 119 nor 563 will connect to ant USENET server; however no problem web browsing with Mozilla default of JonDoNym variation; and no problem with Thunderbird via JD.

Anything I can do at this end at all?
