I have some suggestions for future developments.

We all know JonDo excels in anonymity and security; however, its weakness (intentional no doubt) lies in something else.

Problem:

Occasionally, people may voice their grievances that they cannot connect to a particular service or program because of IP restrictions. Bondi inquired whether JonDo offered a UK IP address for BBC programming. I would imagine that issues like this may be common for people in the community.

However, there is no real solution currently available. This then creates the need for another service--an additional proxy or VPN service to accommodate the needs and wants of customers.

Rather than trying to resolve such an issue by having a cascade exit with a UK IP--

I think it would be in the interest of the JonDos and the JonDo community if the following were implemented:

1. Allow single server connections.
2. Individualize the cascade services into single parts but...
3. Maintain the existing cascades.


So for example:

Something like Delta-Protect Ltd would still exist in all the cascades but it would also exist as a single server connection. This is similar to the Dresden mix server--a single connection.

By doing this for all the premium servers, the following happens:

1. It allows for a greater allocation of exit IPs.
2. The speeds are faster and are perfect for those who are less interested in anonymity than they are for entertainment.

Single servers are not about anonymity--rather, they are about bypassing IP restrictions for online programming.

I think these suggestions would make JonDo more complete--it would continue to offer anonymity and security while also offering an enhanced network for bypassing IP restrictions for online entertainment.

Thanks for these suggestions. We've been thinking about such an additional service a while ago but dismissed it for a couple of reasons. One is that we would distract from our main product, JonDonym. It could be that we would get recognized as a company that is doing proxy stuff but not as the company that is developing and maintaining an high-end anonymization service. That is a thing we do not want. There are additional concerns about splitting our user base (even if just some premium users would switch to a single hop solution). Furthermore, we would have a considerable resource drain as we would need additonal support capacities, a new/modified web presentation, maybe some modified software... To sum it up: That idea might be tempting but I fear in the mid/log run it wouldn't buy us anything.
