At hotspots I like to change the MAC and Hostname for additional privacy. This works with no problem in Ubuntu and also on a Live Ubuntu on a USB.

However, for Live JonDo on a USB only changing the MAC works.

When attempting to change the Hostname with a simple command like ' sudo hostname foo' , the hostname changes but nothing works anymore.

Similarly entering a new name in /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname is accepted by the system, but nothing starts (neither JonDo nor JonDoFox or anyting else).

Thus so far it looks that Live JonDo only works with 'jondonym' as hostname .

Can anybody think of how to change this hostname? ( I realize that a live CD is never persistent and changes will be lost on shutdown and will need to be reinstalled on reboot).

You can change the hostname at boot time. In the boot seletion menu you have to choose your boot variant ("Live" or "Live 868") an hit TAB (not ENTER!). Here you can edit the hostname string and than you can boot by ENTER.

May be, we will change the MAC address by default in version beta 9. I will do some tests to feature out problems.
