The philosophy of JonDonym

"Give me six lines written by the most honorable of men,
and I will find an excuse in them to hang him."
- Cardinal Richelieu.

Privacy is equally important for each individual and society. It protects our personality. that is more and more significantly embodied as personal data, from being misused. Misuse of personal data by intrusion in privacy is thereby misuse of personality. The power to do this is at hands of those who control the technology, and also of those who control the technicians. A special responsibility for preventing misuse of power rests with both of them.

Privacy needs Anonymity

Privacy is the enabler to frankly speak one's mind, and to get access to arbitrary information. JonDonym is a technology that allows anybody anywhere to get an unrestricted access to means of communication, and to get protected from illegal intrusion in his or her privacy.

However, anonymity and the freedom in accessing information also cause responsibility. We thereby think about the responsibility of each individual not to violate basic social agreements manifestend in laws.

Trust is good, mistrust is better...

The base for true trust in an anonymization system is to accept, that mistrust is basically appropriate. The security of JonDonym is therefore always pooled on many, so neither individuals nor single organisations can ever exercise complete control.
