During investigations about "Stuxnet" and "DuQu" in past several months the Iran National CERT (MAHER) found evidence for a new sophisticated malware. It was called "Flamer" by MAHER. After deleting of sensitive information in the Iran oil industry by malware the Iran National CERT asked the UN’s ITU for assistance. Together with Kaspersky Lab and CrySys Lab a cyber weapon was dicovered by MAHER and a removal tool was published.
A few days ago the some Flamer command-and-control (C&C) servers sent a suicide module to several compromised computers to purge all files used by the worm to avoid futher investigation.
"Stuxnet" was only one part in ongoing US cyber war against Iran, alleges a book by New York Times correspondent David E. Sanger. A new piece was dicovered now. UN urges all countries to seek a peaceful solution to end the cyberwar because all indications are that "Flame" has been created by a nation state. Eugene Kaspersky does not speak about cyber war, he said:
It's not cyber war, it's cyber terrorism and I'm afraid it's just the beginning of the game ... I'm afraid it will be the end of the world as we know it.
Update: Bruce Schneier (an internationally accepted security scientist) wrote an article: An International Cyberwar Treaty Is the Only Way to Stem the Threat about the risk of an ongoing cyberwar.
